Crochet Sleeping Mats for the Homeless

Event: Service Outreach - Crochet Sleeping Mats

Location: Humanist Community Center, 627 W Rio Salado Parkway, Mesa

Anita is leading this wonderful project on the 2nd Saturday of each month (except December).

Bring your plastic grocery bags. The only bags we can use are the ones they put your groceries in at the register.

For those of you who have attended my previous classes, please bring the crochet hook that you bought from Anita. If you have a 10mm or 11mm hook, please bring it. Anita will have hooks to sell to those who don't have one.

If any previous class attendees have finished or partially done mats, please bring them.

Volunteer Outing: St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance

Event: Service Outreach - St. Mary's

Location: St Mary's Food Bank, 2831 N. 31st Ave, Phoenix

St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, the world's first food bank, is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization that alleviates hunger by efficiently gathering and distributing food to sites that serve the hungry. Serving two-thirds of Arizona's 15 counties, the organization is committed to volunteerism, building community relationships and improving the quality of life for Arizonans in need.

Each Volunteer, youth and adult, will need to complete a release form. Release forms can be found under the "More" tab at the top of the page, in the section labeled "files". If you have volunteered with us at St. Mary's before, you do not need to fill out the form again.

Details for the day:

Parking is limited on some days due to activity at their campus locations. Let’s try to carpool as much as possible. East Valley volunteers, I'll be in southwest corner of the parking lot of AZ Mills Mall on I-10 and US-60 (behind Joe's Crab Shack) at 11:15, to leave at 11:30 for carpooling.

Due to Health codes and safety reasons, a required dress policy is in effect! Volunteers MUST wear Closed Toe Shoes, Shirts need to be short or long sleeved (No tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc.) and Shorts are okay. Please leave valuables, purses or backpacks in your vehicle for your safety and security! St. Mary’s Food Bank is not responsible for lost and/or stolen items brought into our facilities! Stay alert at all times— Please DO NOT operate Cell Phones or IPods on the volunteer floor!
